Tal Ofer | About:
Tal Ofer, born in Israel in 1981, lives and works in the Hefer Valley. For Ofer, photography is a medium which articulates the untranslatable and the inexpressible inherent in the very act of seeing. It involves a constant suspension and wonder, shaped and enriched by light—the photographer’s palette—which affects everything visible in its presence and absence. As the lens imitates the eye, the camera and the act of photography confront the limits of one’s consciousness and, within its boundaries, of one’s creativity. The gaze through the camera is always grounded in epistemological and philosophical questions of perception, interpretation, and subjective awareness. Through this lens, the altering essence of time can be explored, though never fully captured. In Ofer’s photographs, the camera’s shutter serves as a bridge to one’s shifting preconceptions of time. The distinctive separation between the abstract and the concrete, alongside the processes of genuine reflection and unfolding objectivity, is regularly challenged—admittedly, not always successfully—in a constant and creative struggle. At the core of his work are the key concepts of the moment, the occurrence or the happening, meeting the moment, and the point of imperfect balance in editing. Ofer’s works have been featured in various national and international solo and group exhibitions. Alongside his artistic practice, he extends his work to various photography and art programs as a lecturer and teacher.
